Formatting Instructions

Submissions for all tracks, except Mobile Experiences should use the ACM MobileHCI 2008 Proceedings format, which can be downloaded from this page. Mobile Experiences should use the format provided here: ACM MobileHCI 2008 Mobile Experiences template

On the remainder of this page you find the formatting instructions for the FINAL CAMERA-READY VERSION of your Full Paper, Short Paper, Workshop Abstract, Poster Abstract, Demonstration Abstract, Panel Abstract, Industrial Case Study or Student Design Competition Design Document for the MobileHCI 2008 (supplementary) proceedings.

The MobileHCI 2008 (supplementary) proceedings will be part of the ACM International Conference Proceedings Series and will be published online in the ACM Digital Library and on DVD-ROM. All final camera-ready versions must be submitted in an electronic format which conforms to ACM specifications.

Please read this page carefully. Submissions that do not conform to the ACM and MobileHCI 2008 specifications will be returned to the author for corrections.

On this page, you will not find information how and where to submit your properly formatted final camera-ready version and signed ACM Copyright or ACM Permission and Release Forms. For that information, we refer to the Submission Instructions page.

Template, Page Numbers, Headers, Footers and Copyright Statement

The correct ACM copyright statement should appear on the first page at the bottom of the left column (see below). Your final submission SHOULD NOT contain any other header or footer. In particular, your final camera-ready submission should not include page numbers: the papers will be paginated in an order determined by the chairs and added to the bottom upon finalization.

If you used the ACM MobileHCI 2008 proceedings template for your initial submission, you may have to include items again that you removed for anonymous submission (e.g., author names).

The page size for the MobileHCI 2008 proceedings is US Letter (8,5x11 inch). Make sure that there are no widows (last line of a paragraph at the top of a column). Section and subsection headings should remain with at least 2 lines of body text when near the end of a page or column.

Microsoft Word Documents

For your convenience, we derived the ACM MobileHCI 2008 Proceedings templates for Microsoft Word from the standard ACM SIG Proceedings format, by filling out proper ISBN and copyright statements.

Full and Short Papers

For Full Papers and Short Papers, please use the following template:
ACM MobileHCI 2008 Main Proceedings template

This template contains the following copyright statement on the first page at the bottom of the left column in 8 pt. Times New Roman, justified text, with MobileHCI 2008 in italics:

Permission to make digital or hard copies of all or part of this work for personal or classroom use is granted without fee provided that copies are not made or distributed for profit or commercial advantage and that copies bear this notice and the full citation on the first page. To copy otherwise, or republish, to post on servers or to redistribute to lists, requires prior specific permission and/or a fee.

All Other Tracks

All other tracks should use a slightly different template (different copyright statement) ACM MobileHCI 2008 Supplementary Proceedings template

LaTeX Documents

Use ONLY Type 1 fonts (see http://www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/sigfaq.htm#a14).

Full Papers and Short Papers

Please use the sig-alternate.cls class file from the ACM proceedings template website, or the sig-alt-full.cls class file. Both are tight formats and can automatically insert the ACM copyright statement and conference info that is needed. To do so, insert the following three lines in your .tex document after begin{document}:

conferenceinfo{MobileHCI 2008,} { September 2–5, 2008, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.}
CopyrightYear{2008}
crdata{978-1-59593-952-4/08/09}

All Other Tracks

Please use sig-alt-release2.cls or sig-alt-release.cls. These class files automatically insert the ACM permission statement that is needed. To do so, insert the following three lines in your .tex document after begin{document}:

conferenceinfo{MobileHCI 2008,} { September 2–5, 2008, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.}
CopyrightYear{2008}
crdata{978-1-59593-952-4/08/09}

Mandatory Sections

Please read the following, this is important to ensure the inclusion of your final camera-ready version in the proceedings on DVD-ROM and the ACM Digital Library.

The following are MANDATORY SECTIONS for ALL submissions, and should be filled in properly and accurately on the FINAL CAMERA-READY VERSIONS. This information is used to produce the indexing of the e-publication and the metadata to include the conference publication in the ACM Digital Library:

Title:
Title of Your Submission Should be Initial Caps

Authors:
For each and all authors their first name, other initials (if any), and last name need to be included after the title of the paper on the first page.

Affiliation:
The affiliation, department (if any), affiliation location, State, Country, and e-mail address should be included for each author.

Abstract:
Please include an abstract (short overview) of your submission on the first page top of the left hand column.

ACM Categories & Subject Descriptors:
Your choices of the ACM classifiers need to be included on the first page of your paper after the abstract. The ACM Computing Classification Scheme is available at: http://www.acm.org/class/1998/ .

General Terms:
This section is limited to the following 16 terms and MUST appear on the first page of your paper: Algorithms, Design, Documentation, Economics, Experimentation, Human Factors, Languages, Legal Aspects, Management, Measurement, Performance, Reliability, Security, Standardization, Theory, Verification.

Keywords:
This section is your choice of terms you would like to be indexed. They are NOT mandatory. If you do include keywords on your first page, the section should appear after the General Terms and before the body of the paper.

Figures and Images

Color / grayscale:
Please test-print your submission in grayscale (e.g. on a black and white printer) to be sure color figures and images reproduce well. Figures and images will be printed in black and white (grayscale) in the print version of the proceedings. ACM Digital Library users accessing your paper online may also print them in black and white (grayscale). Colour figures and images may and will appear in colour in the ACM Digital Library and in the conference proceedings on DVD-ROM.

Resolution:
Please use 300 dpi or 600 dpi images to ensure quality reproduction. If possible, use .tif sources for your images, not .jpg or .jpeg. If you use .jpg or .jpeg sources, please use a resolution of 200 dpi or higher.

Rules/Lines:
Please use rules/lines in your graphs, tables or charts that are black and at least 0,5 pt thick. Finer lines will not reproduce well, even if you can see them on your laser printed hardcopy (your laser printers typically have a far lower resolution than the printers that will be used).

Fonts:
If your figure uses a custom or any non-standard font, the characters may appear differently when printed in the proceedings. Remember to check your figure and ensure all fonts are embedded or included in the figure correctly.

Transparencies:
If a figure or image is assembled from multiple images, the images must be embedded, layers flattened or grouped together properly in the file, not lined. Transparencies should also be flattened.

Proper .pdf for the ACM Digital Library

If you have the full version of Adobe Acrobat and/or Distiller, you should use these ACM distiller settings. If you used LaTeX, you can create a .pdf file for your submission with LaTeX, but make sure that ALL fonts are embedded.

Submission

** For the final version, in addition to the .pdf file, we also need source files and a properly signed copyright form, together in a zipfile, uploaded via the MobileHCI 2008 Conference Review System along with final metadata ** For detailed instructions, please see the Submission Instructions page.
